Heavy Rain Triggers Landslide In Tirumala

Continuous rainfall over the past three days has triggered a landslide on the second ghat road leading to Tirumala, disrupting traffic and causing hardship for devotees visiting the Lord Venkateswara Temple.

According to officials of the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD), the landslide occurred on Monday evening after heavy rain loosened rocks and soil along the hill stretch. Boulders rolled onto the road, blocking vehicle movement for nearly an hour. Fortunately, there were no injuries or casualties.

TTD engineering and forest teams immediately rushed to the spot and cleared the debris, restoring traffic between Tirupati and Tirumala. Warning boards and barricades have been placed at vulnerable curves to prevent further mishaps.

Pilgrims arriving from different parts of the country for darshan were affected as dense mist and continuous rain reduced visibility on both ghat roads. Many were advised to remain indoors until weather conditions improved.

Officials said continuous monitoring is underway along both the first and second ghat roads to identify weak spots and prevent additional landslides.

The Regional Meteorological Centre has forecast moderate to heavy rainfall across Tirupati district for the next 24 hours. Authorities have urged devotees to avoid unnecessary travel and follow safety instructions issued by the TTD and local police.

The incident has once again underscored the risks of hill travel during monsoon conditions and the need for heightened safety measures in the Tirumala region.
