A herd of wild elephants that strayed out of the forest in search of fodder enthralled tourists after camping on a grassy hill near Mattupetty Dam in Munnar on Monday afternoon.
The lush green meadows along the Mattupetty–Echo Point road are well known for frequent elephant visits, as herds from the surrounding forests often emerge to graze on the tender grass. Tourists traveling on this route usually stop their vehicles to watch and photograph these majestic animals.
In this instance, four elephants were seen grazing peacefully for nearly an hour on a meadow beside the main road. Excited tourists gathered at a safe distance, capturing the rare sight on their mobile phones and cameras.
