G. Kuppuswamy Naidu Memorial (GKNM) Hospital, a pioneer in stroke care, organized a Stroke Awareness Activity on the occasion of World Stroke Day to highlight the importance of early detection and timely treatment.
Recognized as Coimbatore’s first Advanced Stroke Centre certified by the Quality Accreditation Institute (QAI), GKNM Hospital reaffirmed its leadership in providing comprehensive stroke management and rehabilitation. The event was held at the GKNM iOP Outpatient Centre, where experts from Neurology, Neurosurgery, Interventional Radiology, Emergency Medicine, and Physiotherapy departments interacted with the public.
The awareness program aimed to educate people on recognizing early stroke symptoms, understanding the urgency of treatment — encapsulated in the message “Time is Brain” — and adopting lifestyle changes to prevent strokes. Specialists also shared insights on advanced treatment options and rehabilitation methods that aid faster recovery.
The program featured the hospital’s dedicated stroke team, including Neurologists Dr. Parvathy and Dr. Ravichandran; Neurosurgeons Dr. Bala Senthilkumaran and Dr. Kavin Bharathi; Interventional Radiologist Dr. Rasmiranjan Padi; Emergency Medicine Consultant Dr. Sabarish Sivakumar; and Physiotherapist Dr. Mahesh Mitra, along with nursing and support staff.
Doctors stressed that early recognition and prompt medical intervention play a vital role in minimizing brain damage and improving recovery outcomes. The event underscored GKNM Hospital’s continued commitment to advancing community health awareness and delivering world-class stroke care.
