Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan has urged the police to ensure that those responsible for the sexual assault of a college student in Coimbatore receive the maximum punishment under the law.
The Vice President arrived in Coimbatore by air and visited the Ella Karupparayar Temple at Onnipalayam near Karamadai, where he offered prayers. As he exited through the airport’s VIP gate, he was greeted by members of the public and BJP cadres who had gathered to welcome him.
Speaking to reporters, Radhakrishnan observed that leading a disciplined life is a challenging task. He said he had come to Coimbatore for the second time at the invitation of the organisers of the Thiruvilakku Pooja, being held in the city.
When questioned about the shocking sexual assault incident, the Vice President expressed deep anguish, describing it as “an unbearably painful and unthinkable act that has brought shame to our Kongu region.”
He stressed that it was the duty of the police to act swiftly, apprehend the accused, and ensure that they face the severest punishment in accordance with the law.
Extending his sympathies to the survivor and her family, Radhakrishnan said, “This is something that should never have happened. In this time of grief, we must stand firmly with the family and extend our full support.”
