Two Elderly Women Found Murdered in Salem

Shock and outrage gripped Salem district after the bodies of two elderly women were found floating in a quarry pond at Dhadhanur Kattuvalavu
near Magudanchavadi yesterday.
The deceased were identified as Pavai (70), a farmer, and Periammal (75), a goat rearer, both residents of Dhadhanur under Idanganasalai Municipality. According to police sources, the two women left home around 9 a.m. on Monday but did not return even by night.
When relatives failed to locate them after extensive searching, a missing complaint was filed at the Magudanchavadi Police Station.
Later in the evening, locals noticed two bodies floating in a quarry pond owned by a man named Ammasi in Dhadhanur Kattuvalavu and immediately alerted the police.
The Magudanchavadi police, along with Fire and Rescue Services personnel, rushed to the spot, recovered the bodies, and sent them to the Salem Government Hospital for post-mortem examination. Initial inquiries revealed that the jewellery worn by the victims was missing, leading police to suspect that the women were murdered for their valuables and their bodies dumped in the pond to destroy evidence.
The Magudanchavadi police have launched a full-scale investigation and are pursuing several leads to identify and apprehend the culprits.
The brutal double murder has sent shockwaves across Salem district, leaving residents deeply disturbed by the gruesome crime.
