Food Safety raid at polytechnic hostel

Officials from the Food Safety Department conducted a surprise inspection at the Government Polytechnic College hostel on Thadagam Road following allegations of poor hygiene and unsanitary cooking conditions in the hostel kitchen.
The inspection was initiated after students reportedly complained about the quality of food and the lack of cleanliness in the kitchen and dining areas.
During the visit, officers examined the food storage, preparation areas, utensils, and waste disposal practices.
Preliminary findings revealed lapses in hygiene and maintenance, including improper food storage and inadequate cleaning measures.
Officials collected food samples for laboratory testing to verify safety and quality standards.
Authorities have decided to issue a notice to the college management, seeking an explanation for the violations and a report on corrective actions to be implemented.
Sources said follow-up inspections would be carried out to ensure compliance with food safety norms and to safeguard the health of hostel students.
