Low pressure develops over bay of bengal, says IMD

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has announced that a low pressure area has formed over the southwest Bay of Bengal, near the Sri Lankan
coast. In a press release, the IMD said the system is expected to remain active for the next 24 hours and is likely to move slowly in a west-northwest direction. The department also noted that an upper-air cyclonic circulation associated with the system extends up to 5.8 km above mean sea level, indicating favourable atmospheric conditions for its continuation. The IMD is monitoring the system closely and will issue further updates as necessary.
