Stalin Slams Centre for Rejecting Metro Projects for Coimbatore, Madurai

Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has accused the BJP-led Union government of discriminating against Tamil Nadu after the Centre rejected metro rail proposals for Coimbatore and Madurai.
In a strongly worded post on X, Stalin said the Union government had dismissed the long-pending proposals for Madurai — known as Koil Nagar (Temple City) — and Coimbatore — the Manchester of South India — with a blunt “NO METRO.”
He charged the Centre with taking “political revenge” on the people of Tamil Nadu for rejecting the BJP. “Governments must serve all citizens equally. But the BJP government is punishing Tamil Nadu for not supporting it. This is a despicable trend,” he wrote.
Stalin further criticised the Union government for clearing metro projects for smaller tier-2 cities in BJP-ruled states while sidelining proposals from opposition-governed states.
“Tamil Nadu, a land of self-respect, will never accept such a distortion of federal principles,” he said.
Recalling how Tamil Nadu had overcome delays and obstacles to advance the Chennai Metro project, the Chief Minister asserted that the State would adopt the same resolve to bring metro rail to Madurai and Coimbatore, calling it essential for the future growth of both cities.
He reaffirmed the State government’s commitment to securing these projects, saying Tamil Nadu would continue to fight for what its people rightfully deserve.
