Nine students trained under the Isha Foundation’s rural outreach programme emerged prize winners at the Coimbatore district-level chess tournament organised by the Avane Chess Association, marking a proud moment for rural and tribal communities around the Isha Yoga Center.
The tournament was held on Sunday at Sri Saraswathi Thiagaraja College on the Pollachi–Udumalai Main Road, where boys and girls competed across multiple age groups. Of the 27 students who participated from Isha’s training initiative, nine secured top positions.

In the Under-7 category, Ezhilmathi and Samyuktha from Madhwarayapuram clinched leading ranks. In the Under-15 category, Sathya from a tribal village, along with Jayasurya, Pranish, Nandana, Nandita, and Pranitha from the Pooluvapatti region, won prizes with commendable performances.
These students are coached by Swami Tathya of the Isha Yoga Center, who has been consistently training children from neighbouring rural and tribal hamlets. With continued support and structured coaching from the Isha Foundation, the young players are preparing to compete with confidence at district- and state-level events.
