Sri Lankan Navy arrests three Rameswaram fishermen

The arrest of three fishermen from Rameswaram by the Sri Lankan Navy has triggered shock and concern among the local fishing community.
According to sources, the fishermen were taken into custody on charges of crossing the International Maritime Boundary Line while fishing in the waters off Neduntheevu.
The Sri Lankan Navy also seized a mechanised fishing boat belonging to the fishermen.
The arrested fishermen are currently being questioned by Sri Lankan authorities.
The incident has heightened anxiety among fishermen in Rameswaram, who say such arrests continue even when they venture into traditional fishing areas.
Fishermen’s associations have appealed to the Central and Tamil Nadu governments to initiate immediate diplomatic efforts to prevent recurring arrests and ensure the early release of Indian fishermen.
