A sensational murder case linked to an illicit relationship has sent shockwaves across Madurai and neighbouring districts after a young wage labourer was allegedly killed by his wife and her relative, with the crime initially staged as a railway accident.
The deceased, Ritesh alias Deva, aged 27, was a native of Madurai and worked as a daily wage labourer. He was living with his family at Arasamarathu Vinayagar Kovil Road in Thamaraikulam, near Kinathukadavu in Coimbatore district, along with his wife Indrani, aged 26, and their three-year-old son.
On December 26, Deva’s mother Sushila lodged a complaint at the Kinathukadavu police station, expressing suspicion over her son’s sudden disappearance. Police registered a missing person case and began investigations.
While the search was under way, Indrani appeared before the Kinathukadavu police on December 31 and surrendered, confessing that she and her relatives had murdered her husband. She was immediately taken into custody, and a detailed inquiry revealed disturbing details behind the crime.
Police investigations revealed that Indrani was allegedly involved in an illicit relationship with her uncle Vinod Kumar, aged 41, who was employed at a hotel in Karur district. Vinod Kumar reportedly visited Indrani frequently when Deva was away. When Deva discovered the relationship, he is said to have confronted both of them, leading to frequent disputes.
According to police, Indrani and Vinod Kumar allegedly conspired to eliminate Deva, viewing him as an obstacle. On the night of December 28, when Deva was at home, Vinod Kumar arrived along with a few others. A heated argument broke out, following which Deva was allegedly stabbed multiple times, including on the neck, resulting in his death.
To destroy evidence, the accused allegedly arranged a private ambulance from Karur and dumped the body on railway tracks in Karur to make it appear as a suicide. The body was later recovered by railway police and sent to the Karur Government Medical College Hospital for post-mortem.
Meanwhile, Kinathukadavu police, while reviewing CCTV footage from Thamaraikulam, noticed the suspicious movement of an ambulance. Fearing exposure, Indrani surrendered before the police.
Police have launched a manhunt for the absconding Vinod Kumar and others involved. The chilling crime has created widespread outrage and discussion across Madurai.
