Actress and animal welfare activist Divya Spandana has sparked widespread debate on social media following her sharp reaction to observations made by the Supreme Court during the hearing of a stray dog-related case.
The Supreme Court, which resumed hearing the matter on its own initiative, observed that it is impossible to predict the behaviour of animals or determine when a dog might be in a “biting mood.”
The remark was made while discussing concerns related to stray dog attacks.
Reacting to this observation, Divya Spandana questioned the logic behind such generalisations. In an Instagram story, she wrote that just as one cannot predict the behaviour of animals, it is also impossible to read the minds of men.
She further asked whether all men should be imprisoned in advance, since one never knows when crimes such as sexual assault or murder might occur.
Her comments quickly went viral, drawing strong reactions from netizens.
While many supported her view, stating that collective blame is unjustified, others criticised the comparison and argued that equating human criminal behaviour with animal instincts was inappropriate.
Divya Spandana, who has acted in Tamil films such as Kuthu, Polladhavan and Vaaranam Aayiram, is also a film producer through her company AppleBox Studios.
She is known for actively voicing her opinions on social issues, women’s rights and animal welfare through social media.
The remarks have once again placed her at the centre of public discussion, with opinions sharply divided over the comparison and the broader issues raised.
