Three persons, including a young woman, were arrested by the Hill Palace police for allegedly storing and selling ganja from a rented apartment near Thrippunithura in Ernakulam
district.
Acting on a tip-off that ganja was being sold from an apartment building along Sathyadi Road near Thrippunithura, a police team led by Hill Palace Inspector Regin Thomas, along with Sub-Inspectors Balachandran and Santhosh Kumar, conducted a raid on the premises.
During the search, police found ganja stored inside the house and confirmed that it was being sold to customers in the area.
The occupants of the apartment were taken into custody and questioned, following which all three were arrested.
The accused have been identified as Niveth Shineth, aged 22, and Deva Satish, aged 22, both natives of Thalassery, and Devika, aged 23, a native of Ambalappuzha in Alappuzha
district.
Police said the trio had rented the apartment specifically to carry out the illegal trade.
During the operation, police seized 1.5 kilograms of ganja from the house. A case has been registered against the accused under relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.
Police officials said further investigation is underway to ascertain the source of the ganja and to identify others who may be involved in the supply network.
The arrested persons will be produced before a magistrate court.
The incident has caused concern among residents of the apartment complex, while police have reiterated that strict action will continue against drug trafficking activities in the district.
