Avinashilingam Institute for Home Science and Higher Education for Women organised its Annual Research Convention for research scholars, reaffirming its commitment to strengthening research capacity through sustained academic engagement.
The convention was held on the theme “Sustainability of Society-Focused Research in the Era of Emerging Technologies.”
The inaugural session was presided over by Registrar Dr H Indu, who highlighted the growing importance of integrating emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, internet of things and augmented reality into research aimed at societal welfare.
She emphasised that sustainability must remain central to all scholarly pursuits and said research outcomes should be ethical, transparent and socially responsible, contributing positively to communities.

The inaugural address was delivered by Dr Narendra Reddy, Professor, Centre for Incubation, Innovation, Research and Consultancy, Jyothy Institute of Technology, Bengaluru.
He spoke on the fundamental purpose of research and stressed that intrinsic motivation among research scholars is the key driver of meaningful research, innovation and genuine knowledge creation.
Vice-Chancellor Dr V Bharathi Harishankar, in her special address, said research must focus on three core dimensions — social relevance, sustainability and emerging technologies.
She called for comprehensive and holistic research that addresses real-world problems and urged scholars to adopt appropriate methodologies to ensure impactful outcomes.
She also encouraged interdisciplinary and cross-disciplinary research by familiarising scholars with tools from allied domains.

Earlier, Dr P Lalitha, Director of Research and Development, welcomed the gathering, while Dr V Vimala, Assistant Professor, Department of Commerce, delivered the vote of thanks.
Five technical sessions were conducted, with eminent researchers sharing insights on research methodologies, publication ethics, post-research processes and translational research.
