Home guard found with assets worth Rs. 20 Crore

A Home Guard soldier attached to the Andhra Pradesh Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has been arrested after officials found that he had amassed assets worth nearly Rs. 20 crore, far disproportionate to his known sources of income.
The accused, Srinivasa Rao (43), a resident of Nadipur village in Vizianagaram district, joined the Home Guards in 2010 and had been deputed to the Andhra Pradesh Anti-Corruption Bureau for nearly 15 years.
According to officials, Srinivasa Rao allegedly leaked advance information about planned raids on sub-registrar offices, tahsildars, regional officers and politicians, enabling them to evade action. During statewide registration office raids conducted in November last year, several offices were found to be unusually alert, raising suspicion within the department.
Subsequent inquiries revealed that Srinivasa Rao had been secretly passing on sensitive information and accumulating large sums of money. He was later transferred back to the police wing. Following this, a five-member ACB team led by DSP Ramya and Inspector Mahesh conducted raids at his residence and properties belonging to his relatives and associates. Officials seized two apartments, a motor home, four house documents, 23 cents of agricultural land, 166 grams of gold jewellery, silver articles, Rs. 60,000 in cash and bank deposits worth Rs. 7.07 lakh.
The total value of the seized assets is estimated at Rs. 20 crore. Srinivasa Rao has been arrested and remanded to judicial custody.
