An armed police constable was found dead at his residence in Ayanavaram in Chennai early on Monday, in an apparent case of suicide, police said.
The deceased was identified as Vijay, 27, an armed reserve constable attached to the Chennai Police. He had been staying in a rented house along with another constable, Dinesh.
According to police sources, Dinesh left the house for duty at around 5.30 a.m. on Monday and noticed that the door was locked from the outside.
Finding this unusual, he alerted the house owner, who later arrived and opened the door.
When the room was opened, Vijay was found hanging in another room of the house. The matter was immediately reported to the police through the emergency helpline.
Police personnel rushed to the spot, recovered the body and sent it to the Government Kilpauk Medical College Hospital for post-mortem examination. Preliminary inquiries suggested that no suicide note was found at the scene.
The police have seized Vijay’s mobile phone as part of the investigation and are examining possible reasons for the extreme step. A case has been registered, and further investigation is under way to ascertain the circumstances leading to his death.
