Chief of materiel calls for stronger industry-navy ties in Coimbatore

Vice Admiral B. Sivakumar, AVSM, VSM, Chief of Materiel of the Indian Navy, made his maiden visit to Coimbatore on Monday, marking a significant outreach to the region’s growing defence manufacturing ecosystem.
During the visit, the senior naval officer interacted with the Commanding Officer of INS Agrani and visited the Centre for Indigenisation and Self-Reliance, where he was briefed on ongoing indigenisation initiatives and collaborations with industry partners.
The Chief of Materiel later engaged with representatives of local industries, encouraging Coimbatore-based firms to enhance their participation in the Indian Navy’s Make in India programme and highlighting the importance of self-reliance in strengthening national defence production capabilities.
