Shocking details have emerged in the investigation into the death of a contract employee, initially projected as a suicide, with police confirming that the victim was murdered by his wife with the help of her parents.
Jitendra Kumar, 33, a native of Bhaupora village in Etawah district, was working as a contract staff member at the Central Veterinary Research Institute. He was living with his wife Jyoti in a rented house at Kirja Shankar Colony in Kailashpuram. Jyoti was employed as a conductor in the State Transport Corporation.
The couple, who had been in a relationship for nearly nine years since their school days, got married on November 25 last year. A day later, on November 26, Jitendra Kumar was found hanging in their house. Jyoti informed the police, who initially treated the case as suicide.
However, Jitendra’s brother Ajay Kumar raised suspicions and lodged a complaint, following which a detailed probe was launched. The post-mortem report revealed death by strangulation, prompting police to question Jyoti, who gave conflicting statements.
Further investigation revealed that frequent quarrels had erupted due to Jitendra’s addiction to online gambling. He had reportedly withdrawn Rs. 20,000 from Jyoti’s bank account and lost it, triggering a major dispute. Jyoti then called her parents Kalicharan and Sameli, and brother Deepak to intervene. During a heated argument, the four allegedly strangled Jitendra to death and later hanged the body to stage it as suicide.
Police have arrested Jyoti and her parents, while a search is on for her brother Deepak.
