Father kills daughter to bypass two-child rule for elections

In a chilling incident that has shocked the public, a 28-year-old man allegedly murdered his own six-year-old daughter to fulfil his ambition of contesting local body elections, police said.
The case came to light after the body of a young girl was found floating in a canal in Telangana a few days ago.
Police circulated the child’s photograph on social media to trace her identity.
Investigations later revealed that the girl belonged to Kerur village in Nanded district of Maharashtra.
Police subsequently questioned the girl’s father, Pandurang, a hairdresser by profession.
During interrogation, he allegedly confessed to killing his daughter Prachi by pushing her into the canal.
Pandurang is married and has three children — twin daughters aged six and a three-year-old son.
Investigators said Pandurang aspired to contest Panchayat elections.
Under Maharashtra law, individuals with more than two children are disqualified from contesting local body polls.
To overcome this hurdle, Pandurang reportedly discussed the issue with his friend Ganesh Shinde, the local panchayat president.
Police said the duo considered adoption or abandoning the child but later decided to eliminate her. On the day of the crime, Pandurang allegedly took Prachi on a motorcycle to a canal near the Maharashtra–Telangana border and pushed her into the water before returning home. Pandurang and Ganesh Shinde have been arrested. The brutal crime has triggered widespread outrage and
condemnation.
