Lavanya, who was studying in class 12 at Michaelpatti Christian School in Thanjavur district, committed suicide. The then BJP state president Annamalai made a sensational allegation that the student committed suicide due to a forced conversion attempt. In this situation, the CBI, which conducted the investigation, in its report filed in the court, categorically stated that “there was no forced conversion attempt in the death of student Lavanya.”
Following this, voices of condemnation have been raised demanding action against Annamalai for turning this issue into a religious issue. What Annamalai said is a blatant lie and slander. The Christian educational institution has been put under unnecessary pressure by blaming it for the conversion that did not take place. It seems like an attempt to divert attention by pretending that something that does not exist is a silver lining.
All people should have access to education. There is no place for caste or religion in this. Christian missionaries have been providing education for years with a spirit of service. Most of the students studying in those educational institutions are from other religions. Any organization can come forward to start similar educational institutions and provide service.
It is in no way acceptable to blame an educational institution for politics. The Michaelpatti incident demonstrates that. Will Annamalai, who is being exposed for falsely blaming an educational institution, publicly apologize?
Kudos to the CBI for exposing the truth.
Annamalai should apologise!
