District Collector S. Kandasamy inaugurated the “Golu Dolls Exhibition and Sale” on Monday at the Poompuhar showroom, a Tamil Nadu Government enterprise located on Mettur Road, Erode, in the presence of Showroom Manager Malathi.
The exhibition will run until October 31. A similar exhibition has also been launched at the Poompuhar branch outlet situated inside the Texvalley Global Market.
This year, dolls worth a total stock value of ₹60 lakh have been placed on display and sale, with a sales target of ₹35 lakh set for the Erode region. Last year, sales recorded were worth ₹15 lakh.
Due to increases in labor charges and the rising costs of raw materials such as papier-mâché and clay, the prices of Golu dolls have gone up significantly compared to last year. Most of the dolls featured in this exhibition have been sourced from artisans in Kancheepuram, Villupuram, and Kolkata.
A wide variety of Golu dolls ranging from ₹60 to ₹20,000 are available for purchase at the exhibition, with a special 10% discount offered on sales.
