A government school teacher in Andhra Pradesh has been suspended after a video showing her forcing two girl students to hold her feet went viral on social media, sparking widespread outrage.
The incident occurred at the Girijana Ashram Government Girls’ School in Bandapalli village, located in Srikakulam district. The school accommodates more than a hundred students from Classes 1 to 10, many of whom belong to tribal communities.
In the viral video, the teacher, identified as Sujatha, is seen reclining in her chair and speaking on her mobile phone while two young students sit on the floor, holding her feet. The shocking visuals drew severe criticism from parents and the public, demanding action against the teacher.
Following the outrage, District Education Officer (DEO) Jagannath ordered the immediate suspension of Sujatha. An inquiry has also been initiated to investigate the incident and recommend further disciplinary measures.
Officials from the education department said strict action would be taken to ensure that such incidents do not recur and emphasized the importance of maintaining dignity and respect in classrooms.
