Sengottaiyan Writes to Election Commission Over AIADMK’s Two Leaves Symbol

Former AIADMK Minister K. A. Sengottaiyan has written to the Election Commission of India (ECI) seeking an urgent inquiry into the ownership of the AIADMK’s “Two Leaves” symbol, intensifying the internal feud within the
party.
The development follows Sengottaiyan’s recent meeting with V. K. Sasikala, O. Panneerselvam, and T. T. V. Dhinakaran during the Thevar Jayanti celebrations held at Pasumpon in Ramanathapuram district, which created a major stir in Tamil Nadu’s political circles. In response, AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami (EPS) expelled Sengottaiyan from the party, stating that he had acted against party principles and violated its disciplinary code. In his letter to the Election Commission, Sengottaiyan demanded a detailed investigation to determine the rightful authority over the AIADMK’s name and symbol. He alleged that Edappadi Palaniswami does not represent the real AIADMK, and sought additional time to submit documents and evidence supporting his claim. The move has added a fresh twist to the AIADMK’s internal power struggle, with multiple factions including those led by Sasikala, O. Panneerselvam, and T. T. V. Dhinakaran — vying for control of the party’s identity and its symbol. Political observers say Sengottaiyan’s intervention could potentially reopen the battle for the “Two Leaves” symbol, a legacy central to the AIADMK’s identity since its inception.
