The Rotary Club of Coimbatore, led by President Dr. Chitra Manohar, has launched its Global Grant Project “MYO SHIELD,” an initiative aimed at preventing muscle degeneration, at the MDCRC campus of Royal Care Hospital in Neelambur.
The project was inaugurated by District Governor Chella K. Raghavendran, who attended as Chief Guest. Addressing the gathering, he commended the club’s efforts in tackling critical health challenges and stressed the need for preventive healthcare measures to protect future generations.

Chitra Manohar described MYO SHIELD as a mission driven by compassion and responsibility, reaffirming the club’s commitment to creating sustainable and meaningful impact through service.
Rotary leaders including A.V. Pathy, S. Rajasekar, and Senthil Rajagopal were present and appreciated the vision and potential impact of the initiative.

Medical expert B.R. Lakshmi, Trustee and Managing Director of MDCRC, highlighted the importance of early screening and genetic counselling in preventing neuromuscular disorders. She explained that the project focuses on identifying carriers and spreading awareness among families to reduce the occurrence of such conditions.
Senior Rotary leaders R.S. Maruti, S. Subramanian, J. Sanjeevi Kumar, N. Sundaravadivelu, K.S. Pillai, V. Varadarajan, A. Jayakandhan, and Ramesh Chandrakumar, along with other district officials, attended the event and extended their support.

The MYO SHIELD project aims to provide screening, advanced genetic testing, and counselling services to prevent the transmission of hereditary neuromuscular disorders.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks by T. Bina, marking a significant step towards promoting a healthier and more informed society.
