The Erode Collector’s Office is situated on Perundurai Road. The complex comprises two buildings: an old structure with seven floors and a new structure, also with seven floors. Offices belonging to various government departments operate within these premises.
The Erode Collector’s Office is typically a bustling hub, constantly teeming with people. It is particularly busy on Mondays, remaining active until the conclusion of the weekly ‘Public Grievance Redressal Meeting.’ Amidst this routine, an unidentified individual sent an email to the Collector’s Office account, issuing a threat claiming that a bomb had been planted inside the premises.
Shocked by this message, office staff immediately alerted their superiors about the incident.
Upon receiving this information, the Surampatti police rushed to the Collector’s Office. Additionally, bomb disposal experts arrived swiftly and commenced an intensive search operation. ‘Bhavani,’ a bomb-sniffing dog, was also brought to the scene to assist with the search.
Bomb disposal experts and police personnel are currently conducting a meticulous, inch-by-inch search using metal detectors across the entire complex.
This includes the conference hall in the old building, the records storage room, the Collector’s camp office, all other offices within the old structure, the car parking area in the new building, the conference hall in the new building, and the office of the District Revenue Officer’s Personal Assistant.
Consequently, the Collector’s Office premises present a scene of intense activity and tension. Employees who arrived for work this morning remained standing anxiously outside the building, unable to enter the offices. The police and bomb disposal experts continued their search operations; ultimately, it was revealed that the bomb threat was a hoax.
It is noteworthy that a similar bomb threat was issued to the Erode Collector’s Office just a few months ago.
