Licence cancellation warning for artificially ripened mango sales

The Food Safety Department has issued a strict warning against the sale of artificially ripened mangoes, stating that violators will face fines and cancellation of licences.
With the onset of summer, mangoes have begun arriving in large quantities across markets in Tamil Nadu. Popular varieties, including those from Salem and other districts, are witnessing increased demand among consumers.
However, authorities have received complaints that some traders are using chemical agents to artificially ripen mangoes in a bid to boost profits.
Officials have warned that anyone found engaging in such practices will be fined Rs. 5,000 and their sales licence will be revoked.
The department has also directed enforcement teams to carry out intensive inspections at wholesale and retail outlets to curb the malpractice and ensure public safety.
