The Nilgiris district police have imposed restrictions on the movement of heavy vehicles into Udhagamandalam (Ooty) on May 1 in view of the upcoming summer festival and anticipated surge in tourist traffic.
According to officials, the restriction will be in force from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., aimed at easing congestion and ensuring public safety during the festival period.
However, essential services have been exempted from the curbs. Vehicles transporting petrol, diesel and LPG cylinders will be allowed to operate as usual.
Police said the measure is a precautionary step to manage increased vehicular movement and provide a smoother travel experience for visitors and residents during the peak season.
