A parotta master, Gnanaprakash, has been arrested for allegedly hacking a woman to death at her house in Mudalur near Sathankulam in Thoothukudi district. Police said he attacked the woman after she objected to his relationship with her 15-year-old daughter.
The victim, Mary Regila, was hacked to death after the accused allegedly entered her house.
Her husband, Muthukrishnan, and son, Blessed Raja, also sustained multiple sickle injuries and were admitted to hospital for treatment.
The woman’s two 15-year-old daughters, who went missing after the incident, were rescued by police from a locked, dark room in the Ananthapuram area.
Police launched an investigation to establish the circumstances of the murder and the disappearance of the girls.
Southern Zone Inspector General of Police Vijendra Bidari had earlier said the accused had taken the two girls after killing their mother.
District Superintendent of Police Sivanathan said Gnanaprakash allegedly committed the murder because Mary Regila had opposed his relationship
with her 15-year-old daughter.
