Brain-dead man’s organ donation saves seven lives

Organs harvested from a 48-year-old man from Gobichettipalayam, who was declared brain dead following a road accident, have helped save the lives of seven patients.
Ravichandran had sustained severe injuries in a road traffic accident and was admitted to Royal Care Super Speciality Hospital for treatment.
Despite intensive medical care, he did not respond and was declared brain dead on April 28.
Following this, his family consented to donate his organs.
In accordance with the guidelines of the Transplant Authority of Tamil Nadu, a team of multi-organ transplant surgeons retrieved the liver, kidneys, heart, eyes, skin and bones.
As per organ allocation procedures, the heart, liver and one kidney were utilised at Royal Care Super Speciality Hospital for patients in
need. The remaining kidney, eyes, skin and bones were allocated to other private hospitals in Coimbatore for transplantation.
Chairman and Managing Director Dr. K. Madeswaran commended the family’s decision, stating that their noble gesture had given a new lease of life to seven individuals. He also appreciated the efforts of the hospital’s medical, paramedical and administrative teams for their dedicated service.
