Residents of Thanneerpandal area in Coimbatore have alleged that waste left after scrap segregation at a private scrap processing unit is being openly burned near a residential locality.
Residents said the burning of waste has caused thick smoke to engulf the area and has also resulted in an unpleasant odour.
Children, elderly persons and other residents are reportedly facing considerable inconvenience due to the smoke and fumes.
The residents have urged the Coimbatore Corporation to take immediate steps to prevent the burning of waste near residential areas and initiate appropriate action against the concerned company.
