Unidentified burglars broke open the hundi of a temple at Appanaickenpatti near Sulur in Coimbatore district and stole the cash inside. The burglars also reportedly took away the CCTV cameras and hard disks installed on the temple premises.
The Shakthi Mariamman Temple in Appanaickenpatti was reportedly targeted by unidentified persons on Sunday night. After breaking open the temple hundi, the burglars took away the money kept inside.
A series of thefts targeting temples located in isolated areas have reportedly been reported in the Sulur region in recent months. As CCTV cameras can help police identify suspects, the burglars allegedly removed and stole the CCTV cameras and hard disks from the temple after committing the theft.
Based on information about the incident, Sulur police have begun an investigation. A sniffer dog and fingerprint experts have been deployed to assist in identifying those involved in the theft.
The incident, in which the burglars allegedly stole the hundi money as well as the CCTV cameras and hard disks, has caused concern in the area.
