The Thoothukudi Book Fair 2026, jointly organised by The Chennai Silks and the Tamil Nadu Booksellers’ Association, concluded on September 6 with an overwhelming response from readers.
The book fair was held from August 27 to September 6 at the Chennai Silks premises in Thoothukudi. The exhibition remained open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily, offering visitors a wide range of books.
Several intellectual and creative competitions were organised during the fair to encourage reading habits among school students, develop their thinking skills and nurture creativity. Hundreds of students from educational institutions in and around Thoothukudi participated in the competitions and showcased their talents.
A valedictory and prize distribution ceremony was held at the Chennai Silks premises on September 6. Tamil Nadu Minister for Fisheries and Fishermen Welfare A. Srinath attended the event as the special guest and distributed trophies, certificates and prizes to the winners.
Ramesh Kumar, General Manager of The Chennai Silks, Thoothukudi; Pandi, Manager; Selvam, Branch Manager; Kishore, District Administrator of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam; and Ravivarma, President of the Tamil Nadu Booksellers’ Association, were among those who participated in the event.
Employees of The Chennai Silks, representatives of the Booksellers’ Association, students and parents also attended the programme.
The organisers said the book fair provided an opportunity to promote reading habits and encourage literary and creative interests among students and the public.
