A large number of devotees witnessed the grand car procession, the highlight of the 11-day annual feast of Our Lady of Good Health at Velankanni in Nagapattinam district on Monday.
The celebrations began at 5.30 p.m. with the Rosary, Litany, and Novena prayers, followed by a concelebrated Holy Mass led by Most Rev. T. Sagayaraj, Bishop of Thanjavur Diocese.
The car procession commenced around 7.30 p.m. A row of illuminated cars, one behind the other, was taken through the streets, followed by the grand car carrying Our Lady of Good Health. The procession passed through the main streets of Velankanni before returning to the Basilica.
Elaborate security arrangements were made in and around the Basilica, with police personnel deployed at key points to regulate the crowd and traffic.
A special feast Mass was celebrated on September 8 to commemorate the birth anniversary of Mother Mary.
The annual feast concluded in the evening with the lowering of Our Lady’s flag. A special thanksgiving Mass will be held on September 9.
