School Education Minister Rajmohan presented the Best Teacher Award to Mr. Kandan, Agriculture Teacher at Perundurai Government Boys Higher Secondary School, during the Teachers’ Day celebrations held in Chennai.
He was recognized for his outstanding contributions to campus greening, environmental protection, and agricultural skill development among students.
Key Achievements of Kandan: Transformed the school campus into a dense green haven by planting thousands of trees and establishing a nursery to distribute saplings (Neem, Teak, Amla, etc.) for free.
For over 13 consecutive years, he has led a movement encouraging Class 12 Agriculture students to plant saplings upon completing their board exams Collaborated with Nandha Engineering College to organize a 10-day internship for Class 12 students covering farm machinery, drip irrigation, organic fertilizers, and livestock management.
Played a key role in reducing plastic usage on campus, earning the school the prestigious State-level ‘Manjappai Award’ along with a cash prize of ₹3 lakh.
Popularized vocational agriculture courses among students, actively driving practical, field-based learning and environmental stewardship.
