Nearly 100 students from five schools in the Anaimalai and Topslip areas of Coimbatore district will benefit from a free daily bus service launched on Tuesday with support from Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) under its corporate social responsibility (CSR)
initiative.
District Collector Pavankumar G. Giriyappanavar flagged off two buses at the Anaimalai taluk office.
The two 26-seater vehicles were provided at a cost of ₹44 lakh. “The buses will operate without any fare and will pick up students in the morning and drop them back in their respective areas in the evening,” Mr. Giriyappanavar said.
The buses will operate on two routes — Kozhikamuthi–Topslip and Kozhikamuthi–Anaimalai. The service is intended to provide regular transport to students from forest and remote areas.
Students of the Topslip Forest Department Residential Middle School, Sethumadai Government High School, Vettaikaranpudur Government Higher Secondary School, Anaimalai Government Higher Secondary School and Anaimalai V.R.T. Government Girls’ Higher Secondary School will benefit from
the service.
