Government honours mark final farewell to Solomon Pappaiah

Renowned Tamil scholar, professor and Pattimandram moderator Solomon Pappaiah, who died at the age of 90, was cremated with State honours in Madurai on Saturday.
Solomon Pappaiah, a native of Madurai, had served as a Tamil professor at American College, Madurai. He earned a special place in the hearts of Tamil Nadu people through Pattimandram programmes and was also known for his speeches on Tamil literature. He had written commentaries on classical Tamil works, including the Thirukkural.
Following his death due to age-related reasons, people from various walks of life paid their last respects. The Tamil Nadu Government announced that his final rites would be conducted with State honours. Minister C. T. R. Nirmal Kumar had earlier paid floral tributes to Solomon Pappaiah on behalf of the State Government and announced that the final rites would be held with State honours. The mortal remains were kept at the church in Madurai, where relatives and others paid their last respects. State honours were subsequently accorded during the final rites. No gun salute was given.
The mortal remains of Solomon Pappaiah were later cremated at the Tathaneri electric crematorium in Madurai.
