Heavy rain in the Cauvery catchment areas of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu has led to a sharp increase in the inflow of water into Hogenakkal in Dharmapuri district.
The Tamil Nadu Cauvery catchment areas, including Biligundulu, Rasimanal, Anchetty and Keratti, have received heavy rain over the past two days, resulting in fluctuations in the inflow at Hogenakkal.
The inflow, which stood at 7,000 cusecs at 6 a.m. on Thursday, gradually increased to 10,000 cusecs by 2 p.m.
It rose further to 14,000 cusecs by 4 p.m.
Following the increase, water cascaded with force and turned reddish at the Main Falls, Aintharuvi
and Cine Falls in Hogenakkal.
Central Water Resources Department officials at Biligundulu on the Tamil Nadu-Karnataka border are closely monitoring the inflow into the Cauvery.
The ban on coracle rides, imposed since September 12 due to fluctuations in the water flow, continued for the sixth consecutive day.
Tourists who visited Hogenakkal were disappointed and returned without being able to take coracle rides.
