Indian boy held in Sri Lanka after illegal sea journey

A 14-year-old Indian boy was detained by Sri Lankan police after allegedly travelling by boat from Rameswaram to Sri Lanka without travel documents to meet a girl he had befriended through
Facebook.According to the information provided, the boy travelled from the Dhanushkodi coastal area and boarded a boat illegally to reach Sri Lanka. During the journey, he allegedly gave his gold chain to the boat operator as payment for the trip.
The boy was later identified in the Talaimannar area and detained by the local police.
He was subsequently produced before a Sri Lankan court.
Considering the boy’s age, the Talaimannar court ordered that he be placed in a child-care facility.
Police are investigating the identity of the Sri Lankan girl and whether any other persons were involved in facilitating the boy’s journey to Sri Lanka.
