CM Vijay to launch Kamarajar Breakfast Scheme expansion on Sep 22

The Perunthalaivar Kamarajar Breakfast Scheme will be expanded to students of Classes 6 to 8 in government and government-aided schools across Tamil Nadu from September 22. Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay will inaugurate the expanded scheme at Gandhi Gramam Chennai Middle School in Tiruvanmiyur, Chennai.
The expansion will additionally benefit around 15.30 lakh students studying in Classes 6 to 8 in 15,454 government and government-aided schools. An additional Rs. 217.63 crore has been allocated in the current financial year, taking the total allocation for the scheme to Rs. 724 crore.
In Greater Chennai Corporation limits, the scheme will be implemented through integrated kitchens covering 447 government and government-aided schools. In other corporations, municipalities and town panchayat areas, breakfast will be provided through integrated kitchens covering 2,150 schools.
In urban and rural areas and adjoining town panchayat areas, breakfast will be prepared and served at the respective schools by members of self-help groups through the Tamil Nadu Women’s Development Corporation, covering 12,857 government and government-aided schools. The expansion will be implemented across the State on September 22, except in Chengalpattu and Tiruppur districts, where the Model Code of Conduct is in force in view of the by-elections to the Madurantakam and Dharapuram Assembly constituencies.
