YouTuber Irfan’s Luxury car accident: Rs 30.69 lakh compensation to woman’s family

The Chennai Motor Accident Claims Tribunal has ordered payment of Rs 30.69 lakh as compensation to the family of a woman who died after being hit by a luxury car associated with YouTuber Irfan.
The accident occurred on May 25, 2023, on the GST Road at Maraimalai Nagar in Chengalpattu district. Padmavathi, a security guard at a private college, was attempting to cross the road when the car hit her. She died at the spot.
Padmavathi’s son Prakash, daughter Sheela and mother Dhanabagyam subsequently approached the Motor Accident Claims Tribunal in Chennai seeking compensation.
They alleged that the accident occurred because the car was driven at high speed and negligently by Irfan’s driver, Mohammed Azharudeen.
In the order, Judge Naseer Ali noted that neither Irfan, the owner of the vehicle, nor the vehicle’s insured, Tharuni Bhoja, appeared before the tribunal. Despite notices seeking production of Mohammed Azharudeen’s driving licence, it was not produced, the order stated.
The tribunal noted that the vehicle was registered in Irfan’s name and was insured with IndusInd General Insurance Company.
The insurance company was directed to pay Rs 30.69 lakh as compensation to the petitioners. The tribunal also permitted the insurer to recover the compensation amount, along with interest and costs, from vehicle owner Irfan.
