43 battery-operated vehicles launched for Coimbatore solid waste management

Backward Classes Welfare Minister V. Sampath Kumar flagged off 43 battery-operated vehicles, procured at a cost of Rs.86 lakh through corporate social responsibility (CSR) funds, for solid waste management activities of the Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation at the R.S. Puram Corporation Kalaiarangam on Saturday.
The vehicles were provided through Leap Green Energy Private Limited. Each vehicle has a carrying capacity of 500 kg and can travel around 80 to 100 km after three to four hours of charging.
The vehicles have been equipped with four-colour waste bins to facilitate segregation of waste collected from households. Green bins are provided for wet waste, blue bins for dry waste, red bins for sanitary waste and black bins for special-care waste.
Earlier, Minister V. Sampath Kumar, in the presence of Coimbatore District Collector Pavankumar G Giriyappanavar, IAS, and Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation Commissioner Katta Ravi Teja, IAS, inaugurated a special anti-rabies vaccination camp for stray dogs at the R.S. Puram Corporation Kalaiarangam. The vaccination drive is aimed at making Coimbatore free of rabies by 2030, in line with the Tamil Nadu Government’s goal of eliminating rabies in the State by 2030. Corporation officials also briefed the Minister on the rabies awareness activities being carried out among the public.

Saraswathi, Chief Engineer Vijayakumar, City Health Officer Dr. Subashkanthi, Veterinary Officer Dr. Varunkumar, Assistant Commissioner Narmadha, Zonal Health Officers Gunasekaran and Radhakrishnan, Leap Green Energy Private Limited founder and Managing Director Devanand Vijayan and other Corporation officials participated in the programmes.
