Water dispute turns violent as priest allegedly attacks couple

A dispute over the disposal of water from an overhead tank at Vilangurichi in Coimbatore reportedly turned violent, with temple priest Ramasamy allegedly attacking a couple with a brick and attempting to assault them with a
spade.
Ramasamy is reportedly serving as the priest at the Kamatchiamman Temple near Vilangurichi. Maheswaran is constructing a house near Ramasamy’s residence.
According to reports, water overflowing from Ramasamy’s overhead tank was being diverted onto the road, affecting the ongoing construction work.
Maheswaran and his wife reportedly approached Ramasamy and requested that the overflowing water be diverted into a drainage channel. They said this would prevent obstruction to their construction work and also help keep the drainage channel
clean.
The discussion reportedly turned into an argument. Ramasamy allegedly picked up a brick and threw it at Maheswaran and his wife. He then allegedly took a spade and attempted to attack the couple.
The incident was reportedly recorded on video by people present at the spot. The video has since been widely circulated on social media.
Social activists and local residents have urged the police concerned to intervene and take appropriate legal action if the allegations are established. They have also called for steps to prevent the dispute from escalating further.
