The Tamil Nadu Government has issued an order allocating Rs. 812 crore in the first phase for implementing the Annan Seer scheme, under which brides will be provided an eight-gram, 22-carat gold coin and a silk saree.
The scheme was part of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam’s election manifesto. The government, headed by Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay, has now initiated steps to implement the scheme.
The government order states that Rs. 812 crore has been sanctioned in the first phase. Applications will be received online, and a dedicated website for the scheme will be launched soon.
Earlier, Finance Minister N. Marie Wilson had announced in the Assembly during the Budget session that Rs. 813 crore would be allocated for the scheme.
Minister for Social Welfare and Women Empowerment K. Jegadeshwari said administrative and financial approval had been granted for providing an eight-gram, 22-carat gold coin and a silk saree to brides under the Annan Seer scheme.
She said the scheme had been designed to enable the government to stand by brides like an elder brother and provide the traditional seer during the important occasion of marriage.
K. Jegadeshwari said the scheme was aimed at supporting women and reducing the financial burden of families meeting marriage expenses. She thanked Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay for implementing the initiative.
