EPS slams Chief Minister Vijay over drug seizure, calls him ‘silent spectator’

AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami has criticised Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay for remaining silent over the seizure of a large quantity of narcotics allegedly linked to TVK Nagapattinam district functionary Boobalan.
The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) reportedly seized 137 kg of crystal methamphetamine, valued at around Rs. 400 crore, from Boobalan’s residence in Nagapattinam. Boobalan has been arrested in connection with the case.
In a statement, Palaniswami questioned why the Chief Minister had not responded to the seizure despite a press release issued by the Union Finance Ministry on October 18, describing it as one of the biggest narcotics seizures in Tamil Nadu’s coastal region in recent years.
Palaniswami alleged that the case pointed to a major drug network and accused Vijay of failing to address the issue involving a member of his party.
He also questioned the government’s commitment to its anti-drug campaign.
The AIADMK leader further alleged that TVK Nagai town secretary Balraj had threatened media outlets reporting on the case.
He demanded an explanation from the Chief Minister and accused the government of failing to take responsibility for the incident.
The allegations against the TVK functionary and claims of political involvement remain subject to investigation.
