150 families stranded in Bargur hills during floods; villagers seek bridge

Around 150 families in Kuttaiyur, Mattimafalli and Revampatti villages in the Bargur hill region have been facing difficulties accessing essential supplies whenever floodwaters in the Moyar river and Maniyachipallam Odai cut off their access to the plains.
The Moyar river receives water from Kundri hills and surrounding areas before flowing towards the Mettur dam. Maniyachipallam Odai, a seasonal stream originating in the Bargur hills, flows towards the Anthiyur region.
When water levels rise in the river and the stream, the villages become virtually isolated, leaving residents struggling to reach nearby areas to purchase groceries and other essential commodities.
The villagers said they faced considerable hardship during periods of heavy rain and increased water flow, as crossing the river and the stream became difficult and risky. The lack of a permanent bridge has further aggravated their problems, disrupting their access to essential supplies.
The residents have urged the authorities to construct a road bridge across the watercourse to provide a safe and reliable connection between the hill villages and the plains.
A permanent bridge would help the families access essential commodities and other services without having to risk crossing floodwaters, they said, appealing to the authorities to take steps to address their long-standing connectivity problem.
