GEM Hospitals Launches Free Breast Health Campaign

GEM Hospitals, Coimbatore, has launched ‘Pink Kongu’, a two-month free breast health campaign during October and November 2026 to promote awareness, screening and early detection of breast cancer.
Organised through the GEM Breast Centre, the initiative aims to encourage women to prioritise breast health, overcome hesitation about medical examinations and seek timely medical evaluation.
As part of the campaign, free screening mammography is offered to women aged 40 and above who do not have breast-related symptoms. Women of any age experiencing symptoms such as a breast lump, nipple discharge or changes in breast shape or skin can also approach the hospital for clinical evaluation and appropriate diagnostic investigations.
Breast cancer may develop without pain or noticeable symptoms in its early stages. Mammography, a specialised breast X-ray examination, can help detect suspicious abnormalities before they become physically noticeable.
Medical evaluation is also important when women observe new breast changes, as these may have causes other than cancer.
The campaign seeks to address barriers to early diagnosis, including fear of a cancer diagnosis, embarrassment and lack of awareness about screening. It also highlights the importance of personalised screening advice for women with a family history of breast or ovarian
cancer.
Through Pink Kongu, GEM Hospitals aims to improve access to breast health services and encourage women to consult medical professionals about appropriate screening based on their age, symptoms and individual risk
factors.
The free campaign will continue until the end of November 2026 at the GEM Breast Centre, GEM Hospitals, Coimbatore.
