7 year old boy’s death near Melur treated as murder: friend and mother arrested

Police have converted the case involving the death of a seven-year-old boy near Melur in Madurai district into a murder case and arrested his 10-year-old friend and the friend’s mother.
Muthuvelan, son of Periyakaruppan and Sathya of Thaniyamangalam village near Melur, was studying in Class 3 at a private school in the area. He went out to play on Sunday morning but did not return home for several hours.
On Monday morning, the boy’s body was found inside an abandoned tiled-roof house near his residence. Police recovered the body and sent it to the Government Rajaji Hospital in Madurai for a post-mortem examination.
The post-mortem revealed an injury on the boy’s neck, prompting police to intensify their investigation.
During the inquiry, police found that Muthuvelan had gone to the house of a friend living nearby to play. According to the investigation, the 10-year-old allegedly tied a rope around Muthuvelan’s neck while playing. The younger boy reportedly complained of pain, collapsed and died.
Police further found that the friend’s mother allegedly concealed Muthuvelan’s body in the abandoned house in an attempt to protect her son.
Following these findings, police altered the case to murder and arrested the 10-year-old boy and his mother in connection with the incident.
