Power supply was not interrupted at Madurai Meenakshi Amman Temple: TANGEDCO clarifies

The Tamil Nadu Electricity Board has clarified that there was no interruption in the electricity supply to the Meenakshi Amman Temple in Madurai on Thursday (October 29), following reports of a power cut that allegedly affected darshan and the counting of hundi offerings.
Devotees and temple staff had reported a sudden power interruption on Thursday evening. AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami, who had visited the temple for darshan, also criticised the TVK government over the incident.
In its clarification, the Electricity Board stated that the temple has a 350 KVA high-tension service connection and two 125 KVA generators for emergencies.
The board said that, ahead of the visit of important dignitaries scheduled for October 30, the Madurai Electrical Inspector inspected the temple premises and advised the temple’s electrical section to carry out certain works.
Accordingly, the temple’s electrical section switched the power supply to the generator connection at 4.20 p.m. on Thursday.
After the work was completed, the connection was switched back to the electricity grid at 5.35 p.m. The actual changeover took only 1.5 minutes, the board said.
It further clarified that there was no interruption in the electricity supply from the board’s grid to the Meenakshi Amman Temple.
