Vice-President C.P. Radhakrishnan and Tamil Nadu Governor R.V. Arlekar paid floral tributes at the memorial of freedom fighter Pasumpon Muthuramalinga Thevar at Pasumpon in Ramanathapuram district on Friday, marking his 119th birth anniversary and 64th Guru Pooja.

He said Thevar could have become the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu had he compromised on his principles, but he never gave up his convictions. He also praised Thevar for leading a life of integrity and dignity and speaking up for oppressed communities.
Radhakrishnan recalled Thevar’s sustained efforts to secure entry for oppressed communities into the Meenakshi Amman Temple, describing him as a great national leader.
