Coimbatore Collector Launches Healthy Kovai Initiative to Screen 50,000 Employees

District Collector Pavankumar G Giriyappanavar launched the ‘Healthy Kovai – Health Index of Coimbatore’ initiative, jointly organised by Coimbatore Vizha and Young Indians (Yi), Coimbatore Chapter, at Chamber Towers in Coimbatore on Saturday.

The initiative aims to screen 50,000 employees across the city with the support of 20 hospitals and 50 industry associations to assess the health profile of the workforce and develop a data-driven Health Index for Coimbatore.

The launch programme was attended by Katta Ravi Teja, Commissioner of Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation; Dr. Geethanjali, Dean of Coimbatore Medical College; C. Dorairaj, President of the Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Coimbatore; Arjun Prakash, Past Chair of CII Coimbatore Zone; Rahul Kamath, Chair of Yi Coimbatore; Vaishnavi Janani, Co-Chair of Young Indians, Coimbatore Chapter; Nishanth Sivaswamy, Chair of Coimbatore Vizha; and Sundar Ram, Co-Chair of Coimbatore Vizha, along with representatives of hospitals, industry associations and Young Indians.

Rahul Kamath welcomed the gathering, while Nishanth Sivaswamy outlined the objectives, implementation framework and expected outcomes of the initiative as part of the 19th edition of Coimbatore Vizha.

Healthy Kovai will focus on five screening parameters: Body Mass Index (BMI), blood pressure, blood sugar, tuberculosis (TB) and cancer. The initiative seeks to promote preventive healthcare, early detection and greater awareness of health conditions.

The programme will be implemented through a collaborative model in which hospitals will provide medical expertise, screening teams and resources, while industry associations will coordinate with member industries to facilitate employee participation.

A dedicated digital dashboard will be developed to monitor screening progress and consolidate anonymised health indicators. The findings will help identify areas requiring greater awareness and preventive healthcare interventions.

The District Collector, Corporation Commissioner and Dean of Coimbatore Medical College addressed the gathering, highlighting the importance of collaborative efforts in strengthening community health.

A Framework of Understanding was exchanged between the Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Young Indians. An MoU was also exchanged between Coimbatore Medical College and Young Indians to strengthen institutional collaboration.

Sundar Ram proposed the vote of thanks. The consolidated findings of the health screenings are expected to be presented during the 19th edition of Coimbatore Vizha, scheduled from January 2 to 10, 2027.
